What happens when you’re asked to build the city of tomorrow… today? Set on the rugged streets of South Boston, The Greening of Southie is the story of a revolutionary Green Building, and the men and women who bring it to life. From wheatboard cabinetry to recycled steel, bamboo flooring to dual-flush toilets, The Macallen Building is something different––a leader in the emerging field of environmentally friendly design. But Boston’s steel-toed construction workers aren’t sure they like it. And when things on the building start to go wrong, the young development team has to keep the project from unraveling. Funny and poignant, and created by the co-producers and stars of King Corn, Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis, The Greening of Southie is a story of bold ideas, unlikely environmentalists, and the future of the way we live. Followed by Q&A with Director Ian Cheney Maine Premier! ***Click on EXTRAS TAB below for Trailer!*** Sponsored by Unity College

At the headwaters of the Kvichak and Nushagak Rivers in Bristol Bay, Alaska—the two largest remaining sockeye salmon runs on the planet—mining companies Northern Dynasty and Anglo American have proposed to extract what may prove to be the richest deposit of gold and copper in the world, perhaps worth as much as $600 billion. Talented Telluride filmmakers Ben Knight and Travis Rummel spent more than two months in Bristol Bay, documenting the tension between native fishermen who oppose the dam and mine officials who say they will build a “clean” mine that will leave the salmon’s habitat untouched. CIFF is thrilled to host the East Coast premiere of this exquisite film that goes beyond the conflict, offering a portrait of a unique way of life that wouldn’t exist if the salmon don't return with Bristol Bay's tide. Welcome to the 2008 Camden International Film Festival
The Camden International Film Festival is a grass-roots community based organization created in 2004 to sponsor annual documentary film screenings and interaction with filmmakers, panels and other events. The festival exists through community involvement and support and is dedicated to encompassing all that is independent.

Over the past three years documentary features from over 11 countries have been screened in beautiful and unique venues in Camden, Rockport and Rockland Maine. The screenings are followed by intimate Q&A sessions with directors and industry professionals.

Festivities over the weekend also include panels, workshops, photographic exhibits, musical concerts and parties, several that are free and open to the public.
